Course content
1. The beginnings of architecture and construction, the meaning of architecture 2. Architecture and construction of ancient Egypt - stone and geometry 3. Architecture and construction of the Aegean region - stone and sea 4. Architecture and construction of ancient Greece (classical and Hellenistic period) - search for perfection of the order, harmony of construction and landscape 5. Architecture and construction of ancient Rome (including provinces) - architectural intoxication, search for economy, creation of interior space 6. Searching for new building possibilities and new architectural expression - architecture of the time of the spread of Christianity in Europe, forgetting and discovering the forgotten 7. Romanesque architecture, return to great forms 8. Gothic architecture - logic of construction, celebration of light, intoxication by height, stonemasonry 9. Renaissance architecture - intoxication of geometries, search for new typological species, construction of cities 10. Baroque architecture - feeling and passion, theater, matter in motion and calming in classical forms 11. Architecture of the 19th century - disintegration of large orders, styles as bearers of meaning, new styles, eclecticism, new building types, new structures and materials 12. The first half of the 20th century - from Art Nouveau to Functionalism 13. Massive post-war architecture - brutalism

  • Contact hours - 26 hours per semester
  • Undergraduate study programme term essay (20-40) - 30 hours per semester
