Course content
1. Introduction, principles of university studies. Introduction to the subject, requirements for credit and exam, literature. Principles of technical drawing, technical documentation. Classification of buildings, characteristics of the civil engineering. 2. Civil engineering - history, present and tendencies, requirements. Construction materials, structural systems. 3. Structural systems of buildings I. - types, properties, behaviour, requirements, materials and technologies. 4. Ceiling structures I. - materials and technologies. Concrete, reinforced concrete, combined ceiling structures. 5. Typology and unification of buildings. Modular coordination of dimensions in civil engineering. 6. Vertical load-bearing structures I. - elements (walls, columns and pillars), functions, requirements, properties, external influences. 7. Vertical load-bearing structures II. - materials, technologies. 8. Vertical load-bearing structures III. - structural properties, static properties, functions. 9. Ceiling structures II. - structural arrangement and static action of horizontal load-bearing structures, functions, materials, requirements, properties. Vaults, shells. 10. Ceiling structures III. - wooden, steel, reinforced concrete ceilings, combined. 11. Structural systems of buildings II. - external effects, dilatation of structural systems and building elements. 12. Structural systems of buildings III. - complex structural and static characteristics. Interaction of primarily load-bearing and non-load-bearing structures and elements. Anchoring and connecting technology - mechanical connecting elements, shear pins, chemical anchors, adhesives - principles of design and use, properties, load transfer. 13. Building envelopes - functional requirements and properties. Light and heavy perimeter cladding, influence on the behaviour of the structural system.

  • Undergraduate study programme term essay (20-40) - 32 hours per semester

be familiar with the ways of drawing building structures in construction drawings: floor plans, sections and views of the building
be familiar with the principles of planar imaging of spatial elements
to name and describe the functions of basic load-bearing and non-load-bearing elements of the buildings
to describe the properties of construction materials and the basic typology of products for buildings

to characterize the parameters of construction materials
to draw individual building structures and apply the marking of construction materials on the drawings
to characterize load-bearing and non-load-bearing structures of buildings
to characterize the structural and technical solution of the simple building
