Course content
1. Introduction to lexicology, lexicology and its relationship to other linguistic disciplines. 2. The basic units of the vocabulary. Word, morpheme, lexeme. 3. Word-formation in German I. 4. Word-formation in German II. 5. Meaning and its structure. Connotation and denotation. Sem, semem. 6. Monosemes and polysemes. Homonyms. 7. Motivation of the meaning of the word. 8. Vocabulary in German, its structure and size. 9. Structure of German from a diatopic point of view. 10. Syntagmatic and paradigmatic relations in the vocabulary. 11. Phraseology: phrases as lexical units and their characteristics. 12. Changes in the vocabulary - neologisms, archaisms, change of meaning, borrowing of words.
