Course content
Lectures syllabi: Winter semester: - Explanation of the term "communication", structure, importance of communication in medical care - Types of communication, forms of nonverbal communication, communication disorders ? double bind, brainwashing, nonverbal communication significance in interactions with patients, communication barriers - General rules of interacting with people, errors in social perception and ways of preventing them - Observation - Verbal communication, rhetoric, culture of speech - Evaluation, devaluation, empathy, altruism - Dialogue - types, phases, presuppositions of a successful dialogue, errors in carrying a dialogue out, hearing versus listening. - Difficult life situations - Communication with people in difficult life situations, non-adaptive behaviour, personalities with non-adaptive features - Burnout syndrome, relaxation techniques - Dealing with unruly patients, break-through strategy, types of manipulators - Assertiveness, assertive rights, techniques, assertive acceptance of both justified and unjustified criticism, assertive expression of anger - Communication with a challenged person Tutorials syllabi: - self-recognition, self-acceptance, self-presentation - social perception - socio-psychological training - nonverbal communication - dialogue, questioning technique, pacing, summarizing, silence - rhetoric, performance, presentation - empathy development

The students are capable of - describing verbal and nonverbal communication patterns - enumerating and describing the ways of active listening, social perception and the principles and techniques of assertive communication - recognizing errors in communication - using the principles of effective communication during the tutorials - predicting possible reactions to communication - performing practically self-reflection during the tutorials - acting for the benefit of others, showing empathy, tact and tolerance - presenting themselves and their work - collaborating in a team and controlling and conducting communication exercises
