Course content
Syllabus of lectures: 1. Application of psychology in pediatric medicine. 2. The elderly as a patient - problematic situations in the care of the elderly. 3. Selected mental and behavioral disorders - psychosocial problems of dementia. 4. Selected mental and behavioral disorders - psychosocial problems of mental retardation. 5. Disorders of the central nervous system - neurodevelopmental disorders - cerebral palsy (DMO) - psychosocial consequences, psychological approach - progressive CNS diseases - multiple sclerosis (MS) - psychosocial consequences, psychological approach 6. Psychosocial problems of neurological diseases and disabilities. 7. Psychological problems of people with disabilities - congenital disability, psychological adaptation to acquired disability, psychosocial aspects of disability. 8. Physical disability as a functional and aesthetic handicap - psychological characteristics, development, social importance. 9. Psychological approach to problem patients. 10. Burnout - symptoms, occurrence, phase, preventive measures. 11. Repetitorium of covered curriculum. Syllabus of exercises: It is a follow-up to the content of lectures: - psychological approach to a child patient, - application of psychology in surgery and orthopedics, - application of psychology in internal medicine, - application of psychology in patients with mental and physical disabilities, - relaxation procedures in children and adults, - burnout syndrome inventory.

  • Contact hours - 33 hours per semester
  • Preparation for comprehensive test (10-40) - 15 hours per semester

Knowledge
The student will explain the specifics of the psychological approach to patients and the disabled in different age periods, define and describe mental and behavioral disorders, characterize the issue of disability and the specifics of the approach, define and describe the issue of burnout.
Skills
The student applies appropriate approach to patients with regard to their disability, applies appropriate approach to the patient or patient with respect to the patient's age, critically analyzes communication disorders with problem patients, self-reflection of performance in the role of a health care professional.
