Course content
1. Defining social and cultural anthropology in relation to social work and the helping professions. 2. Anthropological theories of culture. 3. The concept of society in anthropology, basic terms and theories 4. Anthropological fieldwork. 5. Kinship, marriage and alliances. 6. Economy, production, distribution and consumption. 7. Politics, forms of government, power and law. 8. Religion, ritual, morals and ethics. 9. Social differentiation, gender, age groups, castes, classes, estates. 10. Language and culture. 11. Nationalism, ethnicity and identity. 12. Multiculturalism, social integration, minorities. 13. Social exclusion, ghettoization, marginalization, poverty.

to introduce and interpret basic work of social and cultural anthropology

use key concepts and theories of the social and cultural anthropology on interpretation of the relevant social phenomenon and topics
propose and use basic methodological procedures use under social and cultural anthropology in research project
The aim of this course is to extend knowledge of basic concepts, theories and methods of social and cultural anthropology and the ability of students to apply them in the context of the helping professions, especially social work.
