Course content
1. Basic outlines of qualitative research. How science works, qualitative research, and participant observation as a key method in anthropology. 2. Structured and unstructured data production techniques. Types of sources and resources. Working with references and literature. 3. Participatory observation as a mixture of techniques, field diary. Formulation of the research problem. Validity, reliability. Concept, hypothesis, theory. 4. Ethnography and reflexive ethnography. Reflexivity in ethnographic research. The identity of the researcher: the anthropologist as a research tool. 5. Research ethics. Ethical aspects of field research, writing ethnography, and publishing. Informed consent. Ethical codes. 6. Research and working with literature, ethical work with AI 7. Methodological aspects of field research. Entering the field. Phases of field research. Selecting informants. 8. Social and political context of ethnographic research. Anthropology and colonialism. The classic model of field research and its criticism. 9. Observation and interview as key methods of ethnographic research. Types of observation. Methods of conducting and recording interviews. Typology of interviews. 10. Oral history. Theory and method of oral history. Areas of application and specifics of the method. 11. Reflection on field research. Discussion with a guest who has conducted their own anthropological field research. 12. Reflection on field research.
