Course content
|
1. The interpretation of historical, intellectual and civilizing presumptions of the origin of anthropological thinking as a specific Western way of the conceptualization of the non-Western world and human diversity. 2. Anthropology, the definition and genesis of the notion, the basic division of anthropological sciences, synthetic and interdisciplinary conception of anthropology, the Anglo-Saxon and Continental tradition of anthropological thinking and its transformation. 3. "Crash of cultures and civilizations", Samuel Huntington, Francis Fukuyama, Shmuel Noah Eisenstadt, problems of modernity, universalism, cultural partikularism and fundamentalism. 4. Definition of the term culture. Problems of multiculturalism, cultural relativism, ethnocentrism, xenophobia, "leading culture" (Leitkultur). Migration in today´s world, assimilation and integration. 5. The origin of modern nationalism, the relation between traditional and modern society (Gemeinschaft a Gesellschaft) and their reflection in contemporary human sciences. The origin and rise of racial theory. 6. Émile Durkheim, the French sociological school, it´s representatives and contributions to the evolution of anthropological thinking in the 20th century. 7. Political anthropology and the critical reflection of modern totalitarism and fundamentalism. 8. Historical anthropology and the rise and transformation of Annales School.
