In the course of study, students learn the basic principles, organizational forms and actors of development of cities and regions. Knowledge of the development process of formation of the European regions and settlements will enable students to understand the major developmental parameters of the formation of local communities in the Czech society. This course provides basic knowledge for specialized courses for the studies of public administration and regional development, which are a prerequisite for substantional disciplines such as regional policy, organization and management of public administration and other profiling courses. Upon successful completion of the course graduates will be able to practically analyze the social and economic processes taking place in the cities and the regions in relation to the practical performance of public authority. Understanding the fundamental linkages between the public sector economy and social processes will enable students to learn and practically apply basic quantitative and qualitative criteria of spatial development.
