Course content
Lectures: 01) Forms of space in visual arts and architecture (from ancient Rome to the present) 02) Nature as a model and context 03) Inside and outside - changes in the relationship between interior and exterior in the interval of tradition - (post)modernism 04) Ornament and its silent revolution - Owen Jones, Henri van de Velde, Adolf Loos, Pavel Janák 05) Space - Raumplan, Plan libre etc. 06) Architecture and ideology - the return of tradition 07) Folklore, vernacular, regionalism and architecture without architects 08) The big city and its reflection, a phenomenological turn 09) Ecology, sustainability, environment 10) The problem of truth - the social and ethical dimension of architecture 11) Architecture and emancipation - space and gender 12) Lecture by a visiting expert according to the current situation 13) Excursion Seminar: The content of the seminars will be: 1) presentation of selected topics supplementing and deepening the topics of the lectures and subsequent discussion (each student will present one topic/personality/work during the semester) 2) discussion of topics from assigned texts (4 texts during the semester) 3) discussion of topics from screenings and documents (4 shorter screenings during the semester)

  • Contact hours - 52 hours per semester
  • Attendance on a field trip (number of real hours - maximum 8h/day) - 8 hours per semester

Basic knowledge of general history at the level of general secondary education.
acquire basic knowledge about the phenomenon of space across the studied fields, on a basic level, compare and analyze different artistic expressions from the aesthetic, semiotic and technical point of view, specify basic knowledge from supporting artistic disciplines, describe the main visual and stylistic canons within the development of visual and applied arts

work systematically in relation to seminar work or own learning, show an interest in own theoretical learning in relation to issues that can be used in one's own practice, master the basic means of expression related to spatial expression, work independently and actively and flexibly respond to the teacher's evaluative comments

prerequisites for the emergence of the understanding of the phenomenon of space in visual arts and architecture (from ancient Rome to the present day), about the main personalities of the field and an approach to their context and style of creation, interpretation of the role of the creator of space and simple relationships in the process of developing a new work or style, examples of the historical development of the phenomenon of space and its philosophically pragmatic connotations

distinguish shape, material and technological characteristics of the development stages of the phenomenon of space and spatial expression, chronologically classify reproductions of specific spatial realizations according to shape, or also the technical solution and the material used, assign to individual periods or to the creative spheres of the disciplines that most and most beneficially influenced them (historical context), evaluate the influence of technical progress on the development of understanding of the given phenomenon
