Course content
Part of the course will be the study of contemporary paintings and illustrations, and visits to museums and their deposits. Theme A - INTRODUCTION 1) inspiration in the history of clothing: where to find it? - Museums, galleries, literature - Leading experts 1b) What are "old clothes"? - Research aspects (aesthetic, historical, archaeological, artistic) - Ways of preservation of clothing (layers, important findings, etc.) 1c) How to work with the theme? - Historic models - Theatre and Film - Free fantasy (it is up to you ...) Theme B - BASICS 2) Cut type T: Establishment of tailoring trade in Europe - 2D vs. 3D: East x West - Options of style, evolution of the shirt, skirt - Tailors' books from the 16th century / Practical demonstration - a simple tunic with cut wedges / 3) Thermal insulation: Textile Materials in History - Layering, differentiation of clothing - Emergence of underwear - Different materials and material combinations 4) Trousers - a revolution in clothing - Creation and development - Different types of cuts, interesting facts / Practical demonstration - technique "Lucette" - weaving at the plug / Theme C - TIME 5) Antiquity: Antiquity & Barbars - Nations, findings 6) The Middle Ages - Romanesque Time - Early and High Gothic - 15th century outside Italy 7) The Renaissance and 17th century - 15th century Italy, 16th century (variations across Europe) , 17th century - Fashion spread through Europe 8) 18th and 19th centuries - 18th century - stages - 19th century - stages 9) Looking beyond Europe - Between East and West: Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Russia - Oriental "drink": The Ottoman Empire, etc. (How Orient influenced European fashion ) Theme D - DETAIL 10) New button - Appearance (14th century) - Transformations and use / Practical demonstration - thread button with wooden center, handmade / 11) Lace, embroidery and other decorative elements - Creation of lace, lace accessories boom in the 16th and 17th centuries - Embroidery on clothing over time, collections of embroidery / Practical demonstration: Basics of reticella technique / End of the semester 12) Field trip /detailed information during the semester / 13) Summary

to work systematically on either seminar work or own learning, to show interest in learning of theory of problematics usable in own practical work as an inspiration, to use basic expresive means and options of comics and its different forms, on a basic level, to analyze and characterize particular styles in relation with social-technical contexts,
