Course content
|
1. Introduction to the study - jewelry and work made of precious metals in the context of the development of artistic and craft creation, chronology and styles, centers and personalities and their contribution. Terminology - secular and church small objects, clothing accessories. 2. Metals and techniques in jewelry making, hallmarking, glyptics and gemology, restoration and conservation of metals and jewelry. Prehistoric jewelry, magical and votive function of jewelry. 3. Jewelry and goldsmithing in antiquity - Egypt, Mesopotamia, ancient culture and its heritage - Greece, Rome and the beginnings of Byzantium. 4. Jewelry and metal in the early Middle Ages - the period of migration of peoples, Germans and Slavs. 5. Jewelry and goldsmithing of Romanesque and Gothic Europe: monastic and court workshops; knightly culture of the early Gothic, high Gothic, Burgundian-Flemish jewelry and late Gothic. 6. Jewelry in the Renaissance and Mannerism. 7. Jewelry and goldsmithing of the Baroque and Rococo. 8. Jewelry and goldsmithing from Classicism to Biedermeier, historicizing styles of the 19th century. 9. Art Nouveau jewelry art in Europe and in Bohemia. 10.
