Course content
1. The 1940s Design 2. The 1950s Design in Europe 3. The 1950s Design in the U.S. 4. Design in Czechoslovakia in the first three postwar decades 5. Worldwide development of Design in the 1960s 6. Design in Czechoslovakia in the 1960s 7. World Development of Design 1970-1990 8. Design in Czechoslovakia 1970-1990 9. Design after 1990 11. -12. (13. ) Field trips (Art & Interior exhibition, date to be announced), lectures and presentations by extern designers. Whenever possible, lectures will be complemented with lectures from ODTD2 by guest teachers dealing with the history of design or related fields, as well as presenting works by industrial designers.

to provide basic knowledge of technical and technological procedures in designers practical work, to compare and analyze different artistic expressions by criteria of esthetics, semiotics and technique on basic level, to specify basic knowledge of supporting arts disciplines, to have basic knowledge about artistic and style canons of evolution of visual and applied art, assumptions of origins of design, factical creation since its beginning, interwar avantgarde in Europe, USA and Czechoslovakia to the beginning of WWII, of examples, shed light on the historical development of design in various technical fields,

to work systematically on either seminar work or own learning, to show interest in learning of theory of problematics usable in own practical work, to use basic expresive means and options of design and its forms, to work independently and activelly and flexibly react to evaluating commentary of the teacher, to chronologically classify industrial products (technical objects) according to shape, or technical solutions and materials used,
