Course content
1. Communication theory and mass communication options. 2. Mediated communication and media, selected properties and control of media institutions. 3. The audience and its importance. 4. Media content and types of communication, construction of media texts, audiovisual and multimedia communiqués. The effects of mass media. 5. Genres in the media. News, journalism, commercial, and its objectives in different media. 6. Characteristic and development of press, radio, television and the Internet as mass media, its options for visual culture art education. 7. Selected problems of mass media - news coverage about real violence, television and lifestyle. Internet - specialty of chat and text communications. Media and power. 8. Analysis of influence media and technology development to pedagogical theory and practice. The importance of visual literacy. 9. The concepts of media education and media literacy in the world. Examples of their implementation into the school curriculum. 10. Czech system of media education, development and present. 11. RVP and questions of application of media education into school practice. Relation of media education to civics, linguistic, multicultural education and informatics. 12. Productive activities in media education. 13. Relation of media education to visual literacy and visual culture art education.

to describe the connections of historical epochs of media pedagogy regarding chronological and contextual links.

to apply basic principals of semiotic and multimodal analysis;
to clarify concepts and to interpret some visual and audiovisual media communication;
to experiment with expressive possibilities of visual and audiovisual communication;
to propose, to elaborate and to structure receptive and productive activities on the basis of didactic categories.
