Course content
The course will focus on reading and interpreting texts that are associated with the reflection of art across theoretical approaches in the second half of the 20th century, which relate to the field of visual studies. We will focus on the constitutive theories, concepts and texts that are essential for the interpretation of art and that created its discourse from the 60s - 70s of the 20th century, when paradigms appeared in theoretical debates important to our present. General list of topics and indicative list of literature Theory of Art and Visual Studies (historical excursion) - art theory as a tool of interpretation - visual studies as the science of watching View - view from the point of view of power (historical excursion, Vilém Flusser - Za filosofii fotografie) - the topic of perspective in fine arts from antiquity to the present and its historically conditioned variability - vision devices, extended arm, Flusser apparatus Authorship (Roland Barthes - Zero Degree of Manuscript, Death of the Author) - self-reflection of text writing (Keith Moxey) - objectivity of writing humanities (hermeneutics) Power, Discourse, New Archeology of the Humanities (Michel Foucault - Discourse) - critique of humanities in the 1960s Identity Politics (Edward Said - Orientalism) - feminism, postcolonialism - telling the history of the optically backward Movie (Gilles Delleuze - Movie 1, 2) - think of the world through the cinema field - the problem of time in cinematography Crisis (Giorgio Agamben - Means without purpose) - criticism of established political categories Environmental disaster (Jussi Parrika - Media Geology) - geopolitically conditioned media production

to clarify the interdisciplinary context of theories of visual culture with regard to the main system elements and relations enabling generalization between disciplines;
to characterize different types of discourse on fine arts;
to clarify the terminology of various theoretical disciplines cooperating with the theory of art education;
to understand and formulate the basic theories (ideas and facts) of visual perception applied in the current discourse on visuality and imagery.

to recognize imaging and other conventions used in visual expressions;
to analyze at the primary level the manifestations of visual culture in terms of art theory, philosophy, aesthetics, sociology of art and psychology of art;
to reveal the form - forming effect of visuality and its contribution to the formation of social - value paradigms;
to critically compare contemporary and historical art texts and analyze the diversity of their interpretive views.
