Course content
1.Changes in the concept of art in society 2.Visual literacy as a basis for disciplinary thinking 3.Active approach to artwork as a basis for visual literacy 4.Main aspects of visual literacy and possibilities of their cultivation 5.Relationship between artist - reality - artwork - recipient (interpreter) 6.Interpretation of an artwork as a structured process - 1st stage 7.Interpretation of an artwork as a structured process - 2nd phase 8.Interpretation of a work of art as a structured process - phase 3 9.Hermeneutics as a theoretical basis for communication with a work of art 10.Contemporary visual theories - a brief overview 11.Working with the artwork in art classes I. 12.Working with artwork in art education II. 13.Visiting the exhibition and lecturing department of the gallery

Learning activities and teaching methods
  • Undergraduate study programme term essay (20-40) - 15 hours per semester
  • Contact hours - 26 hours per semester
  • Preparation for comprehensive test (10-40) - 10 hours per semester

Knowledge
to name the most famous manifestations of visual culture of the past and the present;
to explain basic concepts and facts in the field of visual culture;
to describe the art work of selected authors.
Skills
to perform a basic formal analysis of a visual artistic or other visual work;
to use information about artistic or other visual works obtained from professional literature and from other professional sources.
