Course content

1. Historical introduction, course determination and the relation with Judaism as religion. 2. Primary sources of Law - Torah, Tanach, Mishna a Gemara, jcreation, content and development 3. Secondary sources of Law - rabbincal law, customs a relation to laws of the state, major authorities and collections of law 4. Interpretation of legal norm and application of Jewish Law in particular historical periods, classification of areas of Jewish Law 5. Religious rules - rules related to Festivals, Kashruth, duties in Jewish Law. 6. Personal status - position of Jews, Cohens, Levites, Mamzers, Conversions and Converts, maturity. 7. Family Law - marriage, wedding, divorce, relationship between husband and wife, custody of children. 8. Inheritance 9. Civil Law - ownership, contracts, torts 10. Penal Law 11. Judiciary 12. Jewish Law in the State of Israel, its role in the legal system and relation to state law. 13. Religous justice in Israel, actual problems
