Course content
1. Basic concepts and characteristics of British criminal law 2. Criminal liability. Actus reus. Key precedents. 3. Criminal liability. Mens rea. Key precedents. 4. Actus reus and mens rea - concurrence. 5. Basic concepts and characteristics of the law of torts. 6. Types of civil wrongs 7. The most famous precedents. 8. Basic concepts and characteristics of British contract law 9. Invitation to treat 10. Exclusion notices 11 Key precedents in British contract law Continuous focus on technical language of British law.

Knowledge
To successfully master the subject, the student is supposed to speak English at the upper intermediate level (ie B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) prior to commencement of the lessons.
Skills
The student understands the main ideas of complex texts relating to both specific and abstract topics.
Competences
The student is able to discuss usual matters with native speakers, write comprehensible detailed texts on a wide range of subjects, and explain their opinion on a current issue outlining the advantages and disadvantages of different options.

Knowledge
After completing the subject the students will understand the basic concepts and relationships of criminal law, contract law and the law of torts. Through key precedents, they will get acquainted with the development and application of various legal principles created by judges, with the nature of the doctrine of stare decisis, and the way of interpreting and applying statutes.
Skills
The students will acquire the basic technical terminology of the given legal branches and gain basic professional undestanding of these fields. They will learn the relevant English legal terminology, work with precedents (comparison of a model case with relevant precedents and laws, distinguishing, analysis, judgment), apply this knowledge in communication with others (analysis of model cases, defense of their own judgment).

Students will be able to use the legal collocations in spoken or written form, read selected court decisions with comprehension, defend their own decisions and propose solutions to model cases.
