Course content
Basic concepts of Czech studies, linguistic disciplines, boundary fields. The position of Czech among Indo-European languages and its characteristics as a Slavic language. Outline of the development of the Czech language. Characteristics of Czech according to language plans (phonetic, morphological, syntactic, lexical, semantic level). Stratification and differentiation of the national language. Literary language, standard and codification of literary language. Dialects, general Czech. Professional speech, slang, slang. Functional styles of Czech. Written form of language, spelling, font. Spoken form of language, pronunciation. Developmental tendencies of contemporary standard Czech. Czech in dictionaries, Czech linguists. Analysis of written texts, especially texts of functional factual styles, ie. professional, administrative, administrative-legal style. Within these texts, the basic shortcomings and errors in individual language levels will be discussed, ie mainly in the stylistic, compositional, morphological and lexical levels, but attention will also be paid to issues of spelling. Students will acquire the ability to choose the appropriate language means with regard to the communicative situation, they should consolidate the issues related to the knowledge of the stylistic features of individual language means in written and spoken speech.
