Course content
1. Objectives and content of teaching reading in the first grade, follow-up to pre-school education, maturity for school attendance, elementary reading. 2. Preparation for reading, development of phonematic hearing, language games. 3. Development of Czech spelling books and reading methods until the present time 4. Kožíšek?s readers, genetic method and ways of applying it at contemporary schools. 5. Issues of global method, global readers and ways of applying global reading at contemporary schools. 6. Analytic-synthetic method used in spelling books of Jarmila Hřebejková. 7. Analytic-synthetic method and modern spelling books, analysing spelling books, phases of reading practice. 8. Analysing genetic method and its phases of reading practice in comparison with analytic-synthetic method. Advantages and disadvantages of both methods. 9. Planning and preparation of lessons, puzzle alphabet, alternative teaching aids and materials. Motivation in teaching how to read, ways of activating pupils, selecting specific language games, enlarging vocabulary. 10. Psychological and pedagogical principles of teaching and learning how to read. 11. Reading comprehension, automatized reading, specific differences of literary education in the first grade. 12. Reading drawbacks and disorders, quick diagnosis. Diagnostic tests. 13. Marking and assessment of reading, alternative forms of assessment.
