Course content
Development in literature in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Manifesto of Czech Modernism. Literary symbolism. Decadence. Modern Revue, essayistic production. Literary naturalism in prose and drama. Regional Bohemian and Moravian prose. Regional epics and chronicles of the late 19th century. The development leading to new-classicism (Machar, Dyk). The Anarchists' Generation in prose and poetry. The development in drama after 1900. L. Klíma and J. Váchal. Czech-German literature. The Almanac of 1912 and the characteristics of the new generation in literature. 20s: - themes of war in prose, poetry and drama - legionary literature - proletarian literature and its types - poetism and its development - poetry, prose and drama outside of the main cultural streams 30s: - surrealism - soc. realism - "ruralismus" - poetry, prose and drama outside of the main cultural streams - literature at the time of the occupation - connections between the literature of that time and European literary trends.
