Course content
1. Programme of the course, student requirements, form of course completion, literature. Basic lingustic and phonetic terminology. 2. Czech orthography as a system of lexical, morphological and syntactic orthographical phenomena. Phonetic transcription. 3. - 7. Lexical type of the orthographical phenomena; exercises, dictations. Classification of Czech vowels and consonants. Aspects of connected speech - assimilation. 8. - 9. Morphological type pf the orthographical phenomena; exercises, dictations. Acoustic means of connected speech. Segmentation of connected speech. 10. - 12. Syntactic type of orthographical phenomena; exercises, dictations. Orthoepic standards of spoken Czech.

Students are able to - identify orthographical phenomena in a text concerning their types, - explain basic principles of orthographical phenomena and the most common exceptions and variations, - identify orthographical mistakes in a deliberately defective text, - understand the basis of the Czech phonetic system and its function in a real communication situation, - analyse a spoken text, - know and apply orthographical rules, - compare and interpret linguistic means of the spoken and written text focusing on their function and communication value, - master basic linguistic terminology.
