Course content
Week 1 - Introduction: The European Convention on Human Rights, The Human Rights Act 1998, The European Court of Human Rights - work with text, terminology Week 2 The European Court of Human Rights - case study, work with text, terminology Week 3 The European Court of Human Rights - case studies, oral reports Week 4 The European Court of Human Rights - case studies, oral reports Week 5 The British Constitution: Definition and purpose. Sources of the Constitution. constitutional conventions - work with text, terminology, discussion Week 6 The constitutional role of the judiciary. Separation of powers. The rule of law - work with text, terminology, legal exercises Week 7 Judicial review. Evaluation - work with text, terminology, legal exercises Week 8 Introduction to the law of contract. Offer and acceptance - work with text, terminology, legal exercises, precedents Week 9 Introduction to contracts: Supermarket sales and ticket machines - work with text, terminology, legal exercises, precedents Week 10 Introduction to contracts: Communication of acceptance - work with text, terminology, legal exercises, precedents Week 11: Translation of legal texts. Week 12: Final test. Week 13: Evaluation.
