Course content
Week 1 Introductory class. Presentation of the course, familiarization with the curriculum and requirements for completing the course. Education system in the Czech Republic. Week 2 University studies. The University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, the structure of the university and its bodies. Organization of the academic year. University courses. Time expressions. Week 3 Academic etiquette - addressing, academic titles, vocative, informal and formal communication. Week 4 Study correspondence - formal email, request, apology. Week 5 Rhetorical style: report. Present conditional - expression of politeness and other uses. Week 6 Orientation at the university. Giving direction and giving instructions. Week 7 Midterm test. Administrative style: forms, study regulations. Week 8 Study department. Week 9 Conditional clauses. Week 10 Czech language and its stratification - levels of formality. Week 11 Student and professional slang, slang word formation. Week 12 Course revision. Final test. Week 13 Test correction. Evaluation.

- identify the verb forms of the present, past and future tense
- identify the forms of the indicative, imperative and conditional verb mood

- name objects, people, events and activities related to everyday life activities, such as meeting new people, housing, weather, shopping, dining, services, health, leisure activities

- can use grammatical and lexical means on the B1.1 level with an emphasis on the content of the course - can choose the appropriate linguistic means with regard to communicative situation - can identify basic flaws in the administrative texts and correct them - can write a short administrative (request, apology, complaint) with an emphasis on study related situations - can deliver a short report related to the content of the course - masters the use of academic etiquette - can describe the campus of the university, ask and tell the way to university buildings, auditories, etc. - understands the study regulations and the timetable of the academic year - can communicate study-related issues (conversation at the study department, etc.) - can introduce the university, faculty, field of study - can communicate issues related to a university dormitory, cafeteria and other study-related services
