To vše v podobě základních společensko-politických vztahů, hlavních institucionálních podmínek a souboru specifických společensko-politických podmínek.
The thesis deals with the failure of consociational democracy in Czechoslovakia after 1989. At first the thesis describes the theoretical model of consociational democracy of the political Arend Lijphart. It´s about his characteristics and traits which are necessary for successful operation of consociational model of democracy in practice. All this is in basic socio-political relations, main institutional conditions and a set of specific socio-political conditions.
Secondly, thesis is aimed to show historical circumstances which influence the subsequent failure of Czechoslovak consociational democracy. Mainly it´s focused on the description of tense Czech-Slovak relations in history, long-term absence of democracy before 1989, unequal economic development, constitutional arrangements etc. The result is a clear definition of socio-political conditions in which the model of consociational democracy was applied after 1989 and it´s also necessary context for the description of practical collapse of that model in practice.
Subsequently, the thesis deals with the socio-political environment after 1989 and it shows the most important moments. For example, it introduces the origin and collapse of two main revolutionary political movements, preparations, progress and results of the first free elections or main social issues of that period. For all of these points it devotes a big attention to the role and importance of the political elites at that time.
The consequences of historical circumstances and the socio-political environment after 1989 which were found out are analyzed together with theoretical notions of consociational democracy. The analysis aims to show the main reasons of the failure of the consocialism in Czechoslovakia and it also shows why the political developments were different from the ideas of consociational theory.
