Course content
The development of care for historical monuments in Europe. The system of care for cultural heritage in selected European countries (France, Germany, Austria, Italy). The history of museum work, the origin and development of museum collections in European culture. The most important European museum institutions and their historical development (the collection and museum institutions in Rome, Louvre, British Museum, Museum of the History of Art and Museum of Natural Sciences in Vienna, State Museums in Berlin). EU politics of cultural heritage. Global contexts of European care for historical monuments (UNESCO World Heritage, international organisations ICOM and ICOMOS, the most important international documents). Seminar: elaboration and oral presentation of an individual paper on a selected European collection institution or an important cultural historical monument (individual information retrieval, preparation of the paper).
