Course content

Introduction to cognitive sciences, disciplines (philosophy, psychology, neurosciences, artificial intelligence), origin, development, contemporary status, cognitive sciences in theory and practice of communication. Basic approaches to study human cognition and communication: philosophy (dualism, monism, folk psychology, subjectivity and consciousness); psychology (introspectionism, gestalt, psychoanalysis, behaviourism, current methods, modular architecture, concept, categories, mental representations, perception, memory; neurosciences (basic anatomical, structural and functional arrangements of brain, brain centres for thinking, perception, language and memory, imaging methods in neurosciences, brain and consciousness); artificial intelligence (symbolic paradigm, Turing's test, von Neumann's architecture, Eliza, Chinese room, sub-symbolic paradigm, connectionism).
