Course content
1. Introduction into subject field 2. From poetics, aesthetics and hermeneutics to theories of literature 3. Positivism, marxism, new historicism 4. Russian formalism, czech structuralism 5. Phenomenology and psychoanalysis 6. Reader oriented approaches 7. Theory of fiction worlds 8. Naratology 9. Mukařovský's approach 10. Three readings of Kafka (The Judgment)

learning outcomes
The student is well versed in the fundamental areas of literary theory. The student knows and is able to compare the approaches of major literary schools on issues of literature, literary work, relationship author - text - reader. The student is familiar with the terminology of literary criticism and has experience of interpretive reading of literary texts.
