Course content
|
This course is geared to students who are interested in the nineteenth century British fiction. British poems and novels by authors such as George Gordon, lord Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley, John Keats, Thomas Moore, Thomas Hood, Charles Dickens, William Makepeace Thackeray, the Brontës, Thomas Hardy, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Oscar Wilde will be analyzed and discussed. This course helps students develop their reading and analytical skills by encouraging them to respond to thought-provoking original texts on a wide variety of subjects.

| Students will be able to: - describe and explain the second Romantic wave, - differentiate the second Romantic wave from the so-called Lake School, - explain and describe the Realist novel and identify the main representatives, - chronologically analyze the characteristic elements of English prose, poetry and drama in regards to the specific cultural, social and historic events that significantly influenced English literature, - explain and describe Neoromanticism, - analyse and identify the "decadent representations" in Oscar Wilde's works. |
