Course content
Distribution and water circulation on the Earth. Processes, storages, quantification. Water balance equation. Hydrological features - methods of measurement. Units in hydrology, mutual relationships. Statistical processing of hydrological data. Methods of monitoring and data processing. Definition of a basin. Hydrography of a basin, evaluation methods. Types of river networks. Relationship between hydrographic and runoff conditions. Surface runoff. Flow origin and flow process. Riverbed processes. Water as a geomorphological agent. Geomorphological types of watercourses. Types of runoff system. Genetic classification, characteristics, examples. Types based on basal outflow. Drainage system of Czech rivers. Runoff extremes. Classification and evaluation. Classification of flooding by causes. Annual and daily flow. Curve of exceeding. Methods of classification of lakes and wetlands. Overview of the classifications. Genetic types of lakes. Lakes in the Czech Republic. A thermal stratification of lakes. Formation and characteristics of glaciers. Classification of glaciers. The importance of glaciers in the climate system. Underground waters, their detailed classification. The importance of underground water. Monitoring of underground waters. Stratification, composition and structure of the atmosphere. Air pressure. Soil temperature, water temperature and air temperature. Thermal stratification of atmosphere. Transformation of solar radiation in the atmosphere. Greenhouse effect. Methods of atmospheric monitoring, data processing. Water in the atmosphere: air humidity, evaporation, clouds, precipitation, fronts. Meteorological elements: measurement, processing. Weather forecasts. Airflow in the atmosphere. Causes of flow, acting forces. Local winds. Atmospheric general circulation on a planetary scale. Causes, incidence, seasonal changes. Classification of climate of the Earth. Classification approaches. Characteristics of the world ocean. Morphometry of the ocean ground. Properties of sea water. Movements of sea water and their classification.
