Course content
Historical geography as a scientific discipline - object and subject, basic concepts, scientific journals. Themes, methods and key representatives of the current historical geography. Databases and sources of information on historical-geographical research of the Czech lands. Changes in the geographical organization of society - industrialization, urbanization, transport, diffusion of innovation (Hägerstrand). Landscape changes - the development of land use and land cover, geographical environment and its reconstruction. Borders in space and time - changes of the localization and perception, the 'phantom borders' phenomenon. Nations and nationalism in historical geography - landscape, symbolic iconography, and spatial identities. A research of the development of interactions between society and nature, and causes and consequences of their reflection in the landscape (environmental history). Historical-geographical development of the Czech lands.
