The subject is intended for all those who wish to gain insight into the essence of Anglo-American culture by means of lectures, reading of interesting texts and group activities in which they can develop their own views as well as their spoken language. The first part of the course is devoted to British realia. Here, we will look at the post-war development od Britain, discussing the changes undergone by Britain due to globalization, consumer society, liberalisation of private as well as public life and the influence of other cultures sharing one living space with native Britons. Attention will be paid to the culture and lifestyle of young people and the various youth subcultures over the last few decades. The second part of the course will focus on the USA, tracking both the historical roots of the American identity (Puritans, the War of Independence, etc.) and the key issues of the 20th century (Civil Rights Movement, 1960s and the Hippies, etc.). The topics discussed will also involve the political development culminating in the current situation. The course is also intended to help students who wish to take the State Final Exam in British realia.
