The course aims to provide the basic characteristics of literature, show its specifics compared to other types of the art, introduce the basic terms of literary studies in the field of the literary theory, history and criticism, and its methodology, and gain the knowledge of the literary terminology. The course is also aimed at obtaining an overview of the main developmental trends of Russian literature since the creation to the present day in a broader social-historical context.
