The aim of this M .A. course is to introduce geopolitics and geostrategy as disciplines closely related to political geography, international relations and security studies, and discuss and analyze historical and contemporary geopolitical processes and relations. Students will deal with the main tenets of geopolitical thinking including its main sources of inspiration - social darwinism, German geopolitics, classical British and American approaches to geostrategy, as well as critical geopolitics. The course will also discuss practical aspects of geopolitics, i.e. the spatial dimension of international politics, role of the state and other actors as subjects and objects of geopolitics, as well as geopolitical concepts and practices in the policies of traditional and new powers. |
