The course focuses on the theory and practice of democratic regimes in the 20th century and present. It consists of three main thematic blocks: 1) Its aim is first to explain the basic concepts associated with democratic governance (democratic regime, forms of government, etc.) with an emphasis on parliamentarism and semi-presidentialism. In addition to the concepts themselves, attention is also paid to discussions about them. different approaches, how to explore them, how to define them, etc. 2) In the next part, attention is focused on the application of concepts to the political practice of the 20th century and the present with an emphasis on Central Europe. In this part of the course, non-democratic periods of (central) European policy cannot be avoided, but rather only complementarily, for completeness. 3) In the last part of the course, the main topic is the Czech political regime, its birth, development, current situation and perspectives. Here, too, the Czech democratic regime is analyzed through the concepts set out in the first part of the course. |
