Course objectives:
|
Student will obtain a comprehensive idea about development of the archaeological theory and method during the 2nd half of 20th century and about their current state, with emphasis on the Middle European region. The archaeology will be introduced as a discipline of wide thematic extent which goes over its own limits to the other social and natural sciences and which is able to participate in many debates about historic as well as up-to-date issues.
The course is taught in English.

Requirements on student
|
Combined exam: written as well as oral exam.
Student works with recommended English texts, prepares oral presentations, essays and projects, which are revised and consulted with tutors. Essays should be of extent ca.10-20 pages, oral presentations 10-20 minutes.

Content
|
Basic concepts of the archaeological theory (artifact, communities, community and off-community areals), theory of transformation, archaeological analysis including theory of the field research, synthesis of the structures and their interpretation, theory of the archaeological events, archaeological pradigms, overview of particular periods inclding archaeological cultures, presentation of movable and immovable artifacts, presentation of significant discoveries of the Middle-European archaeology.

Knowledge - knowledge resulting from the course: |
Student
- is able to orientate in the evolution of archaeological paradigms and to explain the important theoretical frames in archaeology from 1960´s to present and show the impact of these theoretical concepts in Czech and Middle European Archaeology
- understands to main tendencies in the development of the archaeological method and is able to applicate the method in his own project
- gains a factual and conceptual frame necessary for orientation in the problems of the Middle-European prehistory and Middle-Ages |
