Introduction to study of the archaeology of Middle Ages and Early Modern era, with accent to Middle Europe. The course is taught in English.

|
Class is taught in English.
Following topics will be discussed:
- Middle Age archaology, paradigms, methods
- archaeology of burial sites of the Early and High Middle Age (cremation and inhumation, barrow burial sites of the Early Middle Age, skeletal burial rite of the High Middle Age)
- archaeology of rural area (early Middle Age village, transformation and settlement nucleation, deserted villages of the Late Middle Age, rural homestead and house, architecture, agriculture)
- town environment (tradition of the towns, origins and formation of the Middle Age towns, important sites)
- archaeology of the fortified settlements (hillforts, castles, strongholds, siege capms)
- movable artifacts (pottery)
