Course objectives:
|
Students become acquainted with analog and digital audio systems, their working principle including their design procedure, technical specifications, operation, diagnostics/measurement of their technical parameters, routine maintenance and configuration. Special accent is put on technical parameters of audio systems, optimal service conditions of sound and electroacoustic playback systems as well as professional studio sound equipment.

Active participation on lectures and tutorials, knowledge of subject matter, completing of semestral works.

Content
|
1. Analog and digital signal sources and their technical parameters in a sound systems
2. Impedance and level matching of analog signal sources
3. Impedance and level matching of functional blocks in audio chain, coupled circuits, communication transformer
4. Interference effects in analog and digital audio signal transmission, electromagnetic and electrostatic induction
5. Balanced and unbalanced signal interfaces, technical parameters and methodology of their design, balanced receivers and transmitters
6. Balanced interfaces of analog and digital microphones, synchronization of digital microphones
7. Technical parameters of audio signals and equipment, signal levels, dynamic range, hw level indicators - PPM, TP-PPM, VU - analog/digital implementation, technical parameters
8. Measurement of loudness level, methods for peak and loudness signal normalization, technical parameters and implementation
9. Digital interfaces of audio equipment, sampling frequencies, methods for synchronization and sync signals, interface normalization
10. Sampling process and impact of jitter on digital audio signal transmission, transfer function of jitter, impact of interference on digital audio interfaces
11. Methods for source coding of audio signals, degradation of audio signals, audio codecs, perturbative artifacts of coding , objective methods for audio quality measurement of wideband audio signals
12. Listening systems - electroacoustic transducers and systems, requirements, technical parameters, measurement methods, methodology of their design, multichannel playback
13. AD, DA audio converters - topology and technical parameters, measurement techniques and equipment for sound systems measurement
