The main goal of this thesis is to evaluate the usefulness and topicality of neutrality as a security strategy in the contemporary world using case studies of five neutral states. The thesis is divided into two parts, the first part consists mainly of theory and is primarily dedicated to the definition of the concept of neutrality. In this part, the ideal permanent neutrality is also defined operationally, i.e. a set of criteria determining the ideal state of neutrality. The practical part of the thesis is focused on the study of five neutral states, the description of each state is divided into four parts, first the historical roots of the neutrality of the country are described, then its historical transformation. Subsequently, an analysis of the public perception of neutrality of the given countries is carried out. Finally, deviations of state neutrality from the outlined criteria of ideal neutrality will be introduced. Case studies serve as a basis for assessing the importance of neutrality in the current international environment and determining conclusion, what leads states to preserve the concept of neutrality even today.
