This bachelor thesis analyses the national conflict in the Tigray region in Ethiopia. Armed conflict has plagued the region since 2020. However, the conflict environment has plagued Ethiopia for many decades. Violence has persisted since November 2020 with no end in sight. The conflict has earned international attention for its brutality. As the title suggests, the thesis deals with the causes, actors, course and impact. The causes are not only modern, but go back to a deeper past. The desire for a greater degree of autonomy for the Tigray region grows with each passing year, and distrust of the federal government deepens. The primary actors in the conflict include the TPLF and the federal government of Ethiopia. Next, the thesis focuses on the important milestones of the armed conflict and then the aftermath. The conflict affects civilian security, the economy, the political situation and the very existence of the rule of law. For a complete analysis it is crucial to be familiar with all these aspects.
