The goal of the bi-semestral course (USA1X + USA2X) is to enable the students to orientate in the basic terminology, concepts and theories of the social and cultural anthropology; to make them familiar with the works of the important anthropologists; to present them the key anthropological publications and show the particular examples of anthropological research of various kinds of societies. In the framework of the USA1 course, the anthropological theory of culture and the relevant terminology, as well as the concepts of society, social structure and social behaviour will be explained. The question of anthropological field research will be discussed. Subsequently to the anthropological theories of culture and society, the partial fields of anthropological study will be presented, such as: kinship and economical systems. The explanation will cover the relevant theories, selected ethnographical and historical examples, relevant publications and the most important researchers in this particular field.
