Course objectives:
|
The main goal of the course is a presentation of selected quantitative methods and its applications in the regional geographical practice. All methods will be introduced (necessary theoretical basis for each quantitative technique), then everything will be demonstrated through practical excersises. These will be focused on explanation of the intensity of time-space interactions of geographic objects.
|
Requirements on student
|
An active participation during seminars, processing of partial tasks, excersises.
Seminary work (alternatives - individually or team work). Main emphasis will be placed on the selection, acquisition, processing, evaluation and graphical presentation of statistical data.
The seminary work will be scored (success rate - 70 %). Oral exam.
|
Content
|
Data collection, data quality verification and preparation.
Use of correlation analysis in geographical research.
Simple linear regression in geographical research.
Principle component analysis
Factor analysis
Multivariate linear regression
Analysis of time series of regional geographical data.
Multidimensional more complex techniques - introduction
Cluster analysis
