Course objectives:
|
Give students deep knowledge in field of railway signalling and interlocking.
Introduce them to history, purpose, philosophy and characteristics of railway signalling and interlocking systems.
Describe in detail function and characteristics of basic components of these systems.
Describe in detail function and characteristics of whole system types: station interlocking, line signalling, level crossing signalling and ATP system and their mutual relationship. Demonstrate particular solutions on examples of real systems.

Translation of scientific article from english to czech and brief presentation of its content.

Lectures
1. Introduction to field of railway signalling and interlocking. Historical evolution, basic terminology and contents of railway signalling and interlocking.
2. Safety principles of railway signalling systems - functional and technical safety. Classification of faults. Inherent safety, redundant safety and reaction safety principles. Safety verification - safety analysis.
3. Safety and reliability of railway signalling systems. Reliability parameters. Methods of safety assessment. Quantification of safety - Safety Integrity Levels and their evaluation.
4. Data transmission and protection in railway signalling systems. Methods of data transmission protection in closed and open communication networks. Protection of stored data. EMC of railway signalling systems. Types of interference and protection of railway signalling systems.
5. Signalling principles, signalling systems. Construction of signal, signal optics, light sources requirements, control and supervision circuits. Interlocking principles of points. Interlocking level of points. Point machines, control and supervision circuits.
6. Inherent safety components. Electromechanical components for signalling systems. Types of relays - N and C type, neutral, phase sensitive.
7. Electronic components for signalling systems. Inherent safety electronic components. Fail-safe logical circuits and basic electronic function blocks.
8. Principles of railway vehicle detection, track circuits, axle counters, vehicle detectors. Use and types of track circuits. Basics of track circuit theory. Equipment of track circuits. Special usage of track circuits.
9. Safe train operation in railway station. Interlocking systems - structure and functions. Interlocking system types - relay, hybrid, electronic - architecture and description of practical solutions.
10. Safe train operation on track lines. Safe train operation principles - time-based, space-based and moving block. Signalling systems for regional lines. Centralised, remote train operation control - architecture and functions of complex signalling and interlocking systems.
11. Safe train operation on level crossing. Level crossing signalling systems - relay, electronic. Architecture and practical solutions.
12. Automatic Train Protection system - principles and functions. Types of ATP system - vigilance control, speed control, point and continuous information transmission. Architecture and practical solution of ATP systems.
13. European ATP system - ETCS and European Railway Traffic Management System - ERTMS. Principles and functions.

1. Technical English in field of signalling and interlocking systems - basic terminology.
2. Technical English in field of signalling and interlocking systems - basic terminology.
3. Laboratory measurement - electromechanical relay (neutral, phase sensitive).
4. Laboratory measurement - signal optics, light sources, control and supervision circuits.
5. Safety analysis - fail-safe impulse signal decoder.
6. Safety analysis - fail-safe logical circuits.
7. Safety analysis - fail-safe solid state switches of DC and AC current.
8. Basic parameters of track circuit, calculation of track circuit example.
9. Laboratory measurement - model of phase sensitive track circuit.
10. Laboratory measurement - sensor of axle counter.
11. Laboratory measurement - model of ATP type LS system.
