Course objectives:
|
The aim of the course is to make students acquainted with population studies from the historical and recent perspective. The course will present basic theoretical concepts - e.g. the first and the second demographic revolutions, epistemiological revolution and further basic theories. It will also deal with the correlation between the population and economic evolution and cultural and social impacts of population changes. The course concerns with a wide range of recent and historical populations, current developed and developing societies including. Further issues are population evolution of humankind, globally rising inequalities, the role of political institutions in controlling and stimulating population processes.
The course is taught in English.
