Course objectives:

The course focuses on the following areas:
introduction to manufacturing; fundamentals of cutting; traditional machining processes, grinding, honing, lapping; nontraditional machining processes; fundamentals of high productivity machining; automation in manufacturing; assembly; metrology and quality management; organization in manufacturing.

Competences acquired |
A student has the general knowledge and can apply the basic knowledge and skills of all methods of the machining, metrology and assembly workshop. The fields of of his knowledge and skills: The basics of machining theory - Terminology, geometry, chip formation, cutting force and cutting work, heat and cutting temperature, cutting environment, machinability of materials, wear and tool life of the cutting edge, the choice and optimization of cutting conditions. Classification and selection of machine tools. Ways of cutting machining - turning, milling, planing, shaping, drilling, broaching, extruding, grinding and other methods of finishing machining, manufacturing of the threads and gears. The principle of working methods, tools, cutting conditions, achievable accuracy and performance. Unconventional machining methods - principle and application, tools, achievable accuracy and performance. Fundamentals of metrology in production engineering. An assembly in engineering - division of the assembly, mounting components and assemblies, sorts of work during installation, types of assembly, assembly automation.
