Key learning outcomes Graduate in Mgr. Archaeology has got advanced knowledge in current theoretical and methodological problems of the discipline. He/she is able to interconnect practical steps of empirical archaeology in the field and in laboratory with theoretical issues, such as the communication meaning of artefacts, theory of artefacts¸ a search for archaeological structures, and with the study of past event (artefacts as results of creative activities of human individuals). He/she is able to independently search for, and critically evaluate, data from European (partly from extra-European) archaeology, to analyze and interpret results of empirical research with the aid of a wide-ranged technological equipment, computers and software.

Profile of the programme The MA academic programme in Archaeology is based on a bloc of elective seminars in landscape and non-invasive archaeology, archaeology in construction and architectural studies and funeral archaeology. The programme also includes environmental archaeology, European early medieval archaeology and archaeology of selected areas outside Europe. Students have to participate in projects of the department during summer field campaigns.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples During the programme period students achieve education in advanced archaeological theory and methodology. They achieve education enabling them to work in professional archaeological institutions (such as the Academy of Sciences, museums, national heritage centres), in semi-popular establishments (archaeological open-air museums), in governmental and district/municipal administration offices (practical application of legislative sites and monuments protection at offices for construction administration), in travel agencies focused on cultural heritage, etc.
