Key learning outcomes The graduates have a profound knowledge of the history of and current science and technology in a broad cultural and social context. They are able to independently carry out original research work, they are ready to conduct a rational reconstruction of the development of various branches of science, scientific theory or a problem. The graduates are able to critically analyse the present state of knowledge, they can independently formulate problems and solve them based on the application of innovative approaches. They are able to present the results of their scientific work verbally as well as to elaborate them in the form of specialist publications. The graduates of this doctoral research degree gain very good educational experience and therefore are prepared to become educators; they have developed communication skills in two world languages. The graduates are set apart by their independent, specialist and personal integrity which is indispensable for the critical evaluation of current findings and professional approaches and for proposing new ones. The graduates are able to popularize science and technology; they are able to advocate their stance in front of an expert committee and lay public.

Profile of the programme The program is conceived as academic and is constituted of subjects from history of science and technology and philosophy and technology. The graduates realize original research projects and have ability to creative and research activity within selected field of study. Emphasis is placed on critical selection of methods, building relevant theoretical background, thorough analysis of theoretical and empirical materials and students´ own contribution to the area of research.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples After passing the program the graduates are able to independently select and solve problems, gather important information on the studied issues, analyze and specify it, systematize and process them in a methodologically correct way. After graduation students are well informed of key problems of the field and are able to continue in the educational and research activities. The program includes practices and fellowships of students at potential employers.
