To je hypotéza, kterou jako první formuloval Karl R. Popper v knize The Open Society and its Enemies (1945).

This bachelor?s thesis is devote to the theme of totalitarianism. The aim of this study was to use deductive methods within the normative-ontological approach to test the hypothesis that the author of the first theory of totalitarianism is Plato. This is a hypothesis first time formulated by Karl R. Popper in The Open Society and its Enemies (1945). In the second chapter, entitled Totalitarianism, is first describes the development of the notion of totalitarianism, respectively totalitarian and penetration of these concepts into the realm of politics and political science. Subsequently, they are presented theory of totalitarianism Hannah Arendt and Jacob L. Talmon, as representatives of political philosophy and theory of Carl J. Friedrich and Zbigniew K. Brzezinski, Raymond Aron, Juan J. Linz and Giovanni Sartori as representatives of empirical political science. In the third chapter, entitled The theory of Karl R. Popper, which represents the major part of the work, they are first introduced to basic terms with which Popper works, a closed society, an open society and historicism. Thereafter they are presented and criticized key arguments Popper's theory on the basis of which is indicates Plato's political philosophy as totalitarian. As the key arguments, they are indicated those, which demonstrate the totalitarian nature of the theory of justice, which is associated with Plato's political program, which Popper identifies as totalitarian. These arguments were refuted or strongly challenged as well as arguments supporting the claim that Plato's philosopher king is a totalitarian ruler. As a consequence, I conclude that Plato wasn't the founder of totalitarianism.
