The main goal of this bachelor's thesis is the description of membrane and catalyst layers degradation in hydrogen fuel cells and especially the description of methods with which is the degradation able to be observed or modelled with. In the first part of the thesis, the principles and components of the fuel cells and its pros and cons are described. In the next part, the production of electricity (and the efficiency of changes of the chemical energy to electric energy) in the fuel cells are described. In the third part, the description of the membrane function and the theoretical reviews of the yet known degradation mechanisms, which damage the membrane, is made. In the fourth part, the description of the function of the catalyst layers and the theoretical reviews of the yet known degradation mechanisms, which damage the catalyst layers, is made. In the fifth part, the review of the methods of experimental research of different properties of fuel cells (especially the degradation) is made. In the sixth part, the review of theoretical models describing the degradation of the membranes and catalyst layers is made. Two models of degradation were thoroughly analysed and in the last part of the thesis they were compared between each other.

Hlavním cílem práce je analýza a zhodnocení současných teoretických přístupů
k popisu degradace polymerních membrán a katalytických vrstev.
V případě membrán bude popis soustředěn na chemickou, teplotní
a mechanickou degradaci materiálu. Znehodnocení katalytické vrstvy
bude popsáno s ohledem na základní mechanismy typu Ostwaldovo zrání,
migrace částic katalytického prášku, oddělení katalytického prášku
od nosného substrátu a redepozice částic katalytického prášku.
