Course objectives:
|
The course will contribute to acquisition of knowledge of relevant ethical theories from antiquity to 20. Century, which react to current practical or theoretical issues. Students will be able to comprehend different approaches, interpret theirs conclusions and cultivate critical thinking.
The course is scheduled once per two years.

Requirements on student
|
Credit: Active participation in seminars (home preparation for reading seminar texts, ability to analyze / interpret / interpret selected passage). Seminar paper in the range of 4-5 standard pages demonstrating the ability to present a specific historical form of a selected ethical problem or the ability to analyze a specific ethical problem and various approaches to its solution and their presentation at the seminar.
Examination: The exam is combined and verifies knowledge of basic ethical problems and concepts.

Content

Ethics in ancient, medieval, renaissance and modern age philosophy. Utilitarianism, Kant, Nietzsche. The course will also provide reflection of morality and ethical categories by non-philosophical disciplines (selected conception from psychology, sociology and biology), which try to deal with traditional question of philosophical ethics. We put more emphasis on conceptions which criticize and offer alternatives to modern humanism, which take the view that human being and its reason is centre of the world - virtue ethics, ecological ethics and feministic ethics.
